Happy New Year! By the grace of God, another year greets you, isn’t that amazing? Without further delay, *clears throat, waves hands and sings* Devotional Monday! Oh, it’s Devotional Monday!
I can honestly say that 2011 was emotionally painful for me. Despite this, God made His calling on my life more clear, and I worked to get myself in line with His will. It was a year of health concerns, being called names; abandonment, occasional loneliness and much confusion.
Yet, here I am. Praise His name, I’m still here!
The Word says in Deuteronomy 28:1,2 that blessings will overtake us if we embrace obedience. In fact, we’re told to be “watchful.” I believe that the first few days of a new year (new week, or month, for that matter) is a great time to reflect upon your past and commit to improving your today. We cannot change the past, and we don’t have a promise for tomorrow, so we have to embrace the gift of today as wholeheartedly as possible. There’s no time like the present to be watchful of past transgressions and aim for being “set…high above all the nations of the earth,” just as Deuteronomy says.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the opportunity to renew and strengthen ourselves for the new year. May You encourage the commitment to Your commandments to guide us in this year, and forever more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
