Opinions? Whatever. Just love one another.

“…love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:39 NIV

While on Facebook, a good friend of mine asked that I change my profile picture to reflect a cause–a link was included and I thought I’d share it with you.

CHANGE YOUR PICTURE TO A RAINBOW IN SUPPORT OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY!

Wednesday July 20, 2011 the U. S. Senate Judiciary Committee will hold the first hearings ever on repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). DOMA has been found unconstitutional in three district courts in different parts of the country. DOMA defines marriage as between a man and a woman. It denies lesbian gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) folks due process and creates two classes of citizens in the six states and the District of Columbia that have marriage equality.

While the hearing is going on I ask that you change your profile picture to a rainbow, sign the petition below, and contact your senators and ask them to support the Respect for Marriage Act.

Here is the petition to sign.

I’m not going to use my blog to impose my opinions on this topic; and, since we’re preparing to roll into the deep of 2012 politics, I won’t go Bible-thumping on what the Word says about homosexuality, heterosexuality, and anything in between.  I will, however, say this: the Word commands us to love one another, period.

Regardless of your feelings about the aforementioned, please do not allow it to prevent you from upholding one of God’s wishes for us.  Love one another, and be as supportive as you can possibly be during this time of political mud-slinging, emotional jabs and heated arguments.
